Who Are These Assholes?
I am not a politician, nor am I running for public office, and I do not have to respect anyone s idiotic opinions.
- William S. Burroughs
[Christian Fundamentalists] do not deserve to be treated like reasonable people because they aren t reasonable people they re dangerous lunatics.
- William S. Burroughs
I have never encountered a righteous Biblebeater who wasn t a thief at heart. When you are doing business with a religious sonofabitch, get it on paper because his word isn t worth shit. Not with the Lord telling him how to fuck you on a deal.
- William S. Burroughs
NOTE The list of invasive, authoritarian Christian scum-bags is almost inexhaustible. These are only some of the more prominent.
has been fanning the flames of paranoia with his radio show, and his financial advice columns in Christian magazines since 1980. He has made numerous appearances on Christian radio talk shows, and has a newsletter for which he charges $225, and all you get is a few photocopied pages every few months. Apparently, part of the $225 price may be for the privilege of getting something in the mail from this self-proclaimed prophet. But what kind of prophet (more like profit) has Gary been? Pretty abysmal. In 1980, he predicted that the economy would soon collapse, that the government would ration food, housing, and that we would have a nuclear war with Russia. In 1987 he wrote, In 1992, we will run out of available hospital beds.... The world will eventually panic. When the first inklings of the Y2K bug hit the news, Gary predicted, A bank run like no other will bankrupt banks all over the world in 1999. He told listeners to his program to sell their houses, invest in guns, gold, and grain, and to move to remote areas to avoid Armageddon. We all know ]low every single one of these predictions came true, don t we? That nuclear war we had with Russia a few years ago really bummed me out. And when computers all over the world suddenly exploded at the dawn of the millennium, I knew that Gary was a true profit.
the founder of Operation Rescue (OR), appears to have been mentally unstable since the 1980s (possibly longer, from what his wife stated). In 1984, he publicly invited people on his nationally broadcast radio show to assassinate Dr. Warren Hem, director of a Boulder, Colorado abortion clinic. He also once brought an aborted foetus in a shoe box to a live TV news conference. And lie urged antiabortion activists to stalk the doctors and staff of abortion clinics, follow their children home from school, and generally harass them. As a result, Randall has been arrested many times over the years, spent many weeks in jails, and paid thousands of dollars in fines.
Evidently, all the crusading took a heavy toll on Randall s family, and they decided that it was better to cat, have enough money to pay bills, and have a stable life. In the year 2000, his wife had enough of it, and separated from him.
Even Terry s closest friends, think he went over the edge. Flip Benham, who now leads Operation Rescue, the organization started by Terry, says, on OR s website, It is with a profound sadness that I report to you that Randall has separated from his wife and family, from his church, and from all of us who have been running the race of faith with him. It is a self-chosen path.
pretty much invented TV evangelism as we know it today. Okay, that credit is usually given to Billy Graham, but let me clarify why I think Pat deserves it. Pat Robertson founded the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), which was the first Christian TV network. CBN was the first permanent Christian TV network to feature nationally syndicated shows on which the hosts would constantly beg for money. (CBN is international, now, and Pat s people beg for money on a global scale!). Pat Robertson got extremely wealthy with his network, and deserves all the credit for being a shrewd businessman.
He used to speak in tongues on his 700 Club. For the uninitiated, speaking in tongues is when insane people babble gibberish that is allegedly the language of angels. What it actually sounds like-and is-is gibberish, and prima facie evidence of insanity. But it s useful. Christian fundamentalists use it to convince ignorant, deluded people that they are truly touched by God. They re touched, all right. When Pat Robertson decided to run for President, in 1984, he mysteriously stopped speaking in tongues and conducting faith healings on his program. I guess God was giving him campaign advice.
He also started the Christian Coalition, which was an attempt to form a political party that would push the extreme Christian Fundamentalist agenda onto the American public. Subscribers to his ministry s various newsletters were sent voting checklists constructed by the Christian Coalition, which essentially told recipients whom God wanted them to vote for via favorable or unfavorable biographies. The checklists made it into the news because they were essentially a religious organization telling voters who to vote for, which violated the First Amendment s church-state separation clause, because of the Christian Coalition s tax exempt status as a religious organization. (In other words, the Christian Coalition, like all Christian organizations, has been riding on the backs of those of us who pay taxes. By engaging in partisan politics and backing reactionary, authoritarian candidates, they were, in essence, attempting to impose their fundamentalist agenda on us using in part our money.) The case was settled out of court, with the agreement being that the language of the future voting checklists would be written in such a way as to omit any language that recommended candidates to. Instead, the checklists listed pertinent issues, and noted where each candidate stood on each issue.
After being one of the biggest losers in the presidential race, Pat became close personal friends with two of the world s most murderous dictators. Presidents Charles Taylor of Liberia and Mobuto Sese Seko of Zaire let Pat open up gold and diamond mines in their countries. In payment, Pat tried to whitewash them, telling the American people what good men they were, and how their countries needed our support. It didn t seem to bother Pat that both Taylor and Mobuto are responsible for the massacre and torture of hundreds of thousands of citizens in their own countries.
You may have seen ads for Freedom Gold, Inc., which is one of Robertson s Liberian gold companies. They sell all sorts of phony commemorative gold coins on television. Reports on his operations in Zaire and Liberia reveal that they have been protected by armed troops of the respective governments, and that workers were often political prisoners working as forced labor.
Pat began to go completely over the edge of sanity back in the early 90s, when he started broadcasting horrifying reports about how the world was about to end. He had dozens of glitzy, highly polished commercials which advanced a paranoid world view that was beyond Orwellian. He did a telethon once, on which he suggested that in the near future the U.S. government would execute the elderly, hunt down and torture Christians, and get involved in a nuclear war. He published and wrote dozens of books that rehashed old John Birch Society paranoia. His remarks in 2001 about the World Trade Center destruction, for which he blames the ACLU and liberal politicians, have pushed him so far out on the fringe that, one hopes, maybe even other evangelicals will conclude that he s insane.
has always been a goof-ball, and he shows no signs of slowing down. He founded, and still is the chief pastor of the Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. He founded the Moral Majority, which is closely tied with Don Wildmon s American Family Association. Both organizations are dedicated to promoting moralistic government intrusion into our private lives.
Falwell, in the 1960s, campaigned against the apostate Martin Luther King, claiming that if the Civil Rights Act passed, blacks would not stop there and would try to get special privileges next. He has since apologized for that.
In the 1980s, Falwell sued Larry Flynt, publisher of the tasteless porno magazine, Hustler, over a joke ad that featured bogus quotes from Falwell talking about how he had lost his virginity to his mother in an outhouse while chugging vodka. The trial went all the way to the supreme court, and is now legendary First Amendment history. (I confess that Flynt is a personal hero of mine.)
Falwell also runs Liberty University, a college that ensures parents that their kids will be brainwashed into being rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth, lunatic-fringe, conservative Republican Fundamentalist Christians. The college used to have rules prohibiting students from public displays of affection, interracial dating, protests of any kind, and dating without the written consent of one s parents. Well, things have changed a little since 1990. Interracial dating is no longer forbidden-provided that the kids get written consent from both parents.
Falwell has told many whoppers over the years-most of which I ve included in this pamphlet. Perhaps his most idiotic recent foible was the editorial he wrote in his newsletter, in which he accused Tinky Winky from the children s show Teletubbies of being gay, because the character was purple and carried a purse. Need I say more?
is proud to call himself America s most popular, self-proclaimed, right-wing, religious fanatic, homophobic, anti-choice, talk show host. (Yes, those are his own words!) Bob has a long and colorful history of making self-contradictory statements and acting in a hypocritical manner. Perhaps the best example of Bob s two-faced nature is found in his trial for beating his 16-year-old step son. Bob very frequently makes passionate rants against abortionists. He calls abortion the worst form of child abuse. But Bob, according to the trial transcripts, and by his own admission, beat his son with a leather belt until the boy was bleeding and his skin was covered with welts.
Bob s TV show, radio program, and Internet sites all promote his form of Calvinism. Listen to any of his shows, and it becomes obvious that he wants to shove his demented form of Christianity down the throats of Americans via the legal and political system. But when Bob was convicted and sentenced for the beating of his son, he whined, The D.A. is trying to force his private morality on us.
But that s not all. It gets better. Enyart has much material on his website about how the ACLU is a front for a Communist organization which seeks to destroy Christianity, yet it was the ACLU that defended his right to beat his son bloody during his trial! Bob advocates a return to monarchy in the USA, and also thinks that gays and atheists should be put to death. He has several web sites that promote his insane, militant form of Christianity
R. J. RUSHDOONEY
was an old time Calvinist who invented the modem doctrine of theonomy, or theologically based economy. He is the godfather of Christian Reconstructionism, the most authoritarian form of christian fundamentalism. Rushdooney is a prime inspiration for most of the movers and shakers of the religious right, including Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Gary North, and Bob Enyart. Rushdooney openly rejected the heresy of democracy and strongly advocates that the USA should become a monarchical theocracy, a form of government with an absolute ruler who would also be the spiritual leader. Rushdooney fervently desires the reinstatement of Old Testament punishments, especially the death penalty for gays, heretics, and atheists. An unapologetic racist, Rushdooney preaches segregation of the races and maintains, based on numerous biblical passages (e.g., Leviticus 25 4446, Exodus 21 26, Exodus 21 202 1, and I Timothy 6 1), that slavery is God s will.
In Their Own Words
This list includes quotes not only from contemporary religious nuts, but also from historical Christian figures, to illustrate that current Christian attitudes towards reason, science, freedom, and politics are well rooted in Christianity s past. Christianity, from its first ) ears in control of the Western World, has practiced and promoted racism, anti-Semitism, violence against women, superstition, distrust of science and medicine, and all too many other other nasty things.
With the recent rise of the Christian Fundamentalist movement, and its support of more and more extreme elements of the political far right, many people might be fooled into thinking that they offer something new (and hopefully pleasant). What I, and many others see, however, is that they are tip to their old tricks, arrogantly promoting prejudice, hatred, irrationality, intolerance, and sometimes outright murder, and that these things are most apparent when you read what they actually have to say.
This pamphlet s purpose is to show the evil, dark, underworld of Christian Fundamentalist thought, through its most prominent spokesmen s own words.
On the Separation of Church and State
Civil Officials must acknowledge the lordship of Christ, and obey his rules for civil governments. Gary DeMar and Peter Leithart
Monarchy is the best form of Government and a system inspired by God. Jesus was not called the Senator of Senators, He was called the King of Kings. Bob Enyart, from his website, www.Enyart.com
We believe that institutionally Christianity should be the official religion of the country, that its laws should be specifically Christian.
Rev. David Chilton, Church of the Redeemer, Placerville, CA
The long-term goal of Christians in politics should be to gain exclusive control over the franchise. Those who refuse to submit publicly to the eternal sanctions of God by submitting to His Church s public marks of the covenant- baptism and holy communion-must be denied citizenship, just as they were in ancient Israel. Gary North, Political Polytheism The Myth of Pluralism, p. 87 (Tyler, TX Institute for Christian Economics, 1989)
The homos, the perverts, the rapists, the Democrats, the Liberals, and Hillary Clinton all love democracy. See, democracy brings socialism because the people vote to steal from other people. You cannot avoid the endresult of socialism. Bob Enyart, responding to a charge that an innocent man might be accused of murder and put to death wrongly, from his website www.Enyart.coni
So let us be blunt about it we must use the doctrine of religious liberty to gain independence for Christian schools until we train up a generation of people who know that there is no religious neutrality, no neutral law, no neutral education, and no neutral civil government. Then they will get busy in constructing a Biblebased social, political and religious order which finally denies the religious liberty of the enemies of God. Gary North, The Intellectual Schizophrenia of the New Christian Right in Christianity and Civilization The Failure of the American Baptist Culture, No. I (Spring, 1982), p. 25
Should Christians govern and are Christians the only ones who are truly qualified to govern, and the answer is, of course, Yes. Bob Enyart, from his website, www.Enyart.com
The church today has fallen prey to the heresy of democracy. R.J. Rushdooney, The Institutes of Biblical Law, p. 747 (Nutley, NJ Craig Press, 1973)
Our culture is superior. Our culture is Superior because our religion is Christianity and that is the truth that makes men free. Pat Buchanan, September 1993 speech to the Christian Coalition
In Right from the Beginning, Buchanan refers to former Spanish dictator Francisco Franco as a Catholic savior. He has also called Franco, along with Chile s Gen. Pinochet, soldier-patriots. (syndicated column 9/17/89) Both men overthrew democratically elected governments in their countries, and murdered tens of thousands of innocent people.
This is God s world, not Satan s. Christians are the lawful heirs, not non-Christians. Gary North, Political Polytheism The Myth of Pluralism, p. 102
There is a war waging in America. The battle is over values, beliefs and the cultural basis of western civilization.... The elitist avant-garde arts community uses the NEA to advertise and disseminate their political beliefs. The NEA then uses our scarce tax dollars to fund works which are intended to shock Americans into an acceptance of dysfunctional behavioral lifestyles and to destroy the family. Lou Sheldon, Traditional Values Coalition, Hearing on the NEA, April 1991
[The judiciary is] the lap dog of the death industry. Randall Terry, quoted in the Fresno Bee, 8/20/89
People have got to ask themselves ... what kind of America do we want? What principles do we want guiding this country s education, judiciary? We want biblical principles. Because if we don t have biblical principles, we have heathenism. we have anything goes! We have humanism! We could have barbarism! Randall I Terry, A Call, to A Action, 5/9/91
Yes, religion and politics do mix. America is a nation based on biblical principles. Christian values dominate our government. The test of those values is the Bible. Politicians who do not use the bible to guide their public and private lives do not belong in office. Beverly LaHaye, Concerned Women For America, in a Ms. magazine interview, 2/87
The Los Angeles riots, showing sickening disregard for the life and property of neighbors, were spawned right in our public school classrooms. We have been teaching multiculturalism instead of Americanism, for ten years now, ind indoctrinating our children with values clarification and self-esteem. Robert Simonds, CEE President s Report, 6/92
We need strong school board members who know right from wrong. The Bible, being the only true source of right and wrong, should be the guide of board members. Only godly Christians can truly qualify for this critically important position . . . Robert Simonds, How to Elect Christians to Public Office, 1985
What Christians have got to do is take back this country, one precinct at a time, one neighborhood at a time, and one state at a time ... I honestly believe that in my lifetime we will see a country once again governed by Christians . . . Randall Terry, Religious News Service, 5/l/1990
Christianity and politics not only do mix, but for democracy as we have known it to survive, they must mix. Donald Wildmon, quoted by the Miami Herald, 11/16/93
They have kept us in submission because they have talked about separation of church and state. There is no such thing in the Constitution. It s a lie of the left, and we re not going to take it anymore. Pat Robertson, quoted in The State, Columbia, South Carolina, Nov. 14, 1993
If anyone understood what Hindus really believe, there would be no doubt that they have no business administering government policies. Pat Robertson
The Constitution of the United States, for instance, is a marvelous document for self-government by Christian people. But the minute you turn the document into the hands of non-Christian and atheistic people they can use it to destroy the very foundation of our society. Pat Robertson, the 700 Club, Dec. 30, 1981
There should be absolutely no Separation of Church and State in America. David Barton, president of Wallbuilders and a close ally of the Christian Coalition, quoted in 1994 Anti-Defamation League Report
America should function as a Christian nation. Randall Terry
[We seek to] replace the heresy of democracy with Biblical law. R. J. Rushdooney
When I said during my presidential bid that I would only bring Christians and Jews into the government, I hit a firestorm. What do you mean? the media challenged me. You re not going to bring atheists into the government? How dare you maintain that those who believe in the Judeo-Christian values are better qualified to govern America than Hindus and Muslims? My simple answer is, Yes, they are. Pat Robertson
There is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that sanctifies the separation of church and state. Pat Robertson
On the Justice System
Anyone aborting, attempting or conspiring to abort, or advocating the killing of an unborn child from this day forward, upon conviction, will be executed. Any manufacturer, provider, or advocate of, or anyone procuring, conspiring or attempting to procure, any abortifacient (such as RU 486, the IUD, or any birth control pill which also acts as an abortifacient) from this day forward, upon conviction, will be executed. Bob Enyart, Day One (in which he outlines how he hopes the first day of Christian rule in America would go)
The proper exegetical principle is this Mosaic law is still to be enforced, by the church or the State or both, unless there is a specific injunction to the contrary in the New Testament. Gary North, The Sinai Strategy. Economics and the Ten Commandments, pp. 242, 255 (Tyler, TX Institute for Christian Economics, 1986)
The question eventually must be raised Is it a criminal offense to take the name of the Lord in vain? When people curse their parents, it unquestionably is a capital crime (Ex. 21 17). The son or daughter is under the lawful jurisdiction of the family. The integrity of the family must be maintained by the threat of death. Clearly, cursing God (blasphemy) is a comparable crime, and is therefore a capital crime (Lev. 24 16). Gary North, The Sinai Strategy Economics and the Ten Commandments, pp. 5960
The potential savings in the national budgets from the elimination of police, criminal courts, standing armies, pollution control agencies, drug enforcement, and many poverty programs is almost beyond calculation.
Pat Robertson, The New World Order, 1991, p. 231
The courts are merely a ruse, if you will, for humanist, atheistic educators to beat up on Christians. Pat Robertson, the 700 Club, Oct. 2, 1990
I am bound by the laws of the United States and all 50 states ... I am not bound by any case or any court to which I myself am not a party ... I don t think the Congress of the United States is subservient to the courts ... They can ignore a Supreme Court ruling if they so choose. Pat Robertson, interview with The Washington Post editorial board, June 27, 1986
Where would Christianity be if Jesus got eight to fifteen years with time off for good behavior? New York State Senator James Donovan, speaking in support of capital punishment
Men in this country should be willing to take responsibility to protect the women and children who are within their reach, in their sphere, in their family, in their community, on their block, in their church. But today, who runs the country? It s feminists. It s women. It s skirts running the country and that doesn t work. Where do you see that? You see this in inner-cities. What do you have in inner-cities? You ve got the feminist dream. Female head of households, 70% or so, women-run social services (welfare, food stamps, child abuse, and all that), public schools dominated by women, and that s the inner-city. The inner-cities are the feminist dream where women are running things. Guess what That doesn t work! Women were not made to run things. Men were made to run things. Bob Enyart, from his website, www.Enyart.com
Who is going to convert American women to wanting what their mothers wanted and grandmothers prayed for a good man, a home in the suburbs and a passel of kids? Sounds almost quaint. Pat Buchanan, The Death Of The West, (Dunne Books, 2001)
If a woman has come to believe that divorce is the answer to every difficult marriage, that career comes before children ... no democratic government can impose another set of values upon her. Pat Buchanan, Right from the Beginning, p. 341
I can hear you saying, I want to be a spiritually pure man. Where do I start? The first thing you do is sit down with your wife and say something like this Honey I ve made a terrible mistake. I ve given you my role. I gave up leading this family, and I forced you to take my place. Now I must reclaim that role. Don t misunderstand what I m saying here. I m not suggesting that you ask for your role back, I m urging you to take it back. Evangelist Tony Brown. Brown also insists that there is to be no compromise on authority, and suggests that women submit to men for the survival of our culture.
Rail as they will about discrimination, women are simply not endowed by nature with the same measures of single-minded ambition and the will to succeed in the fiercely competitive world of Western capitalism. Pat Buchanan, syndicated column, 11/22/83
The real liberators of American women were not the feminist noisemakers, they were the automobile, the supermarket, the shopping center, the dishwasher, the washer-dryer, the freezer. Pat Buchanan, Right from the Beginning, p. 149
Most of these feminists are radical, frustrated lesbians, many of them, and man-haters, and failures in their relationships with men, and who have declared war on the male gender. The Biblical condemnation of feminism has to do with its radical philosophy and goals. That s the bottom line. Jerry Falwell
Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society. Rush Limbaugh, The Way Things Ought to Be (1994 edition)
Nothing about contraception should be taught in schools. There is no question that it will encourage sexual activity. Phyllis Schlafly, New York Times, 10/17/92
You can t get into negotiations with the feminists because you will lose. They will slit your throat. They have no sense of fair play or compromise. Phyllis Schlafly, National Affairs Briefing, August 1992
Nature doth paint them further to be weak, frail, impatient, feeble and foolish and experience hath declared them to be unconstant, variable, cruel, and lacking the spirit of counsel. John Knox, Scottish Presbyterian leader, The First Blast of the Trumpet Against the Monstrous Regiment of Women, 1558
[The] feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, antifamily political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians. Fundraising letter from Pat Robertson as reported in The Washington Post, August 23, 1993
I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband. Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that s the way it is, period. Federal News Service, 9/11/92, quoting a Robertson newsletter
Why are so many marriages falling apart? Why is the divorce rate so high? . . . Why is there such a tragedy in marriage? . . . Now the basic answer to the basic problem of marriages today is a question of leadership. The wife actually makes the husband the head of the household and she looks to him and she says now you pray, and I m going to pray for you that the Lord will speak to you. Pat Robertson, the 700 Club, May 22, 1986
(Robertson) chastised women legislators who support no-fault divorce laws that he says encourage men to split. Any woman who votes for no-fault divorce is like a turkey voting for Thanksgiving, Robertson said, paraphrasing a conservative commentator. The State-Record, Columbia, SC, June 28, 1992
The key in terms of mental ability is chess. There s never been a woman Grand Master chess player. Once you get one, then I ll buy some of the feminism. . Pat Robertson
All wickedness is but little to the wickedness of a woman. Apocrypha. Ecclesiasticus 7 26
Women. . . have but small and narrow chests, and broad hips, to the end that they should remain at home, sit still, keep house, and bear and bring up children. Martin Luther, Table Talk
To promote a woman to bear rule, superiority, dominion or empire, above any realm, nation, or city, is repugnant to nature contumely to God, a thing most contrarious to his revealed will and approved ordinance, and finally it is the subversion of good order, of all equity and justice. John Knox, First Blast of the Trumpet Against the Monstrous Regiment of Women (published in 1558, the first year of Elizabeth I s reign)
Among savage beasts, none is found so harmful as woman. St. Gregory of Nazianzum
Women a foe to friendship, an inescapable punishment, a necessary evil. St. Gregory of Nazianzum
I am aware that some have laid it down that virgins of Christ must not bathe with eunuchs or married women, because the former still have the minds of men and the latter present the ugly spectacle of swollen bellies. For my part I say that mature girls must not bathe at all, because they ought to blush to see themselves naked. St. Jerome, Epistle 107
Married life presupposes the power of the husband over the wife and children, and subjection and obedience of the wife to the husband. Pope Pius XI, Castii Connubii (encyclical)
The judgment upon your sex endures even today and with it inevitably endures your position at the bar of justice. [Woman] you are the gateway to hell. Tertullian (early Christian theologian), De Cultu Feminarum
The female sex is in some respects inferior to the male sex, both as regards body and soul. Roman Catholic Encyclopedia (1912)
On Jewish People
Hollywood and the theater world is heavily influenced by Jewish People ... These people are overtly hostile to the Christian faith. Rev. Donald Wildmon, in his book, The Home Invaders, describing what he calls Jewish domination of the entertainment industry
The god of Judaism is the devil. The Jew will not be recognized by God as one of His chosen people until he abandons his demonic religion and returns to the faith of his fathers-the faith which embraces Jesus Christ and His Gospel. David Chilton, The Days of Vengeance An Exposition of the Book of Revelation, p. 127 (Ft. Worth, TX Dominion Press, 1984)
Diesel engines do not emit enough carbon monoxide to kill anybody. Pat Buchanan, challenging the notion that thousands of Jews were gassed to death by Diesel exhaust in Treblinka, quoted in The New Republic, 10/22/90
If U.S. Jewry takes the clucking appeasement of the Catholic cardinalate as indicative of our submission, it is mistaken. When Cardinal O Connor of New York seeks to soothe the always irate Elie Wiesel by reassuring him there are many Catholics who are anti-Semitic . . . he speaks for himself. Be not afraid, Your Eminence just step aside, there are bishops and priests ready to assume the role of defender of the faith. Pat Buchanan, commenting after Cardinal O Connor criticized anti-Semitism during the controversy over construction of a convent near Auschwitz, quoted in The New Republic, 10/22/90
The false witness born during World War II with respect to Germany is especially notable and revealing. The charge is repeatedly made that six million innocent Jews were slain by the Nazis, and the figureand even larger figures-is now entrenched in the history books. R.J. Rushdooney, The Institutes of Biblical Law, pp. 586, 588
. . . despite Hitler s anti-Semitic and genocidal tendencies, he was an individual of great courage ... Hitler s success was not based on his extraordinary gifts alone. His genius was an intuitive sense of the mushiness, the character flaws, the weakness masquerading as morality that was in the hearts of the statesmen who stood in his path. Pat Buchanan, from a 1977 syndicated column
Who will the Antichrist be? I don t know. Nobody else knows. Is he alive and here today? Probably ... Of course, he ll be Jewish. Of course, he ll pretend to be Christ. Rev. Jerry Falwell, January 29th, 1999 at a conference on evangelism in Kingsport, TN
Communism was the brainchild of German-Jewish intellectuals. Pat Robertson, The New World Order, p. 17
Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition, has spoken of Jews being spiritually blind and spiritually deaf. St. Petersburg Times, June 26, 1994
The Rev. Billy McCormack, the Christian Coalition s Louisiana director and former member of that state s Republican Party Central Committee, refused to repudiate former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke during his campaign for governor and the U.S. Senate, saying Duke was not as much a threat as the Jews in the ACLU. The Religious Right The Assault of Tolerance & Pluralism in America, produced by the Anti-Defamation League
Bailey Smith, a founding father of the movement, once told 15,000 people at a Religious Roundtable briefing in Dallas, With all due respect to those dear people, my friend, God Almighty does not hear the prayer of a Jew.
St. Petersburg Times, June 26, 1994
The unwarranted uproar that surrounded Gov. Kirk Fordice s simple statement of fact that America is a Christian nation serves as a chilling illustration of a contemporary cultural phenomenon the ghettoizing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In Nazi Germany, Joseph Goebbels stigmatized the Jews until they were an athema in the eyes of the general public ... The same thing is happening to Christians in America today. . .
Editorial in Christian American, publication of the Christian Coalition, Jan. 1993
If I had to baptize a Jew, I would take him to the bridge of the Elbe, hang a stone around his neck and push him over with the words I baptize thee in the name of Abraham. Martin Luther, The Jews and Their Lies (published in 1543)
Therefore be on your guard against the Jews, knowing that wherever they have their synagogues, nothing is found but a den of devils in which sheer self-glory, conceit, lies, blasphemy, and defaming of God and men are practiced most maliciously and veheming his eyes on them. Martin Luther, The Jews and Their Lies
He who hears this name [God] from a Jew must inform the authorities, or else throw sow dung at him when he sees him and chase him away. If I had power over the Jews, as our princes and cities have, I would deal severely with their lying mouth. Martin Luther, The Jews and Their Lies
If we wish to wash our hands of the Jews blasphemy and not share in their guilt, we have to part company with them. They must be driven from our country. Martin Luther, The Jews and Their Lies
We are at fault for not slaying them [the Jews]. Martin Luther
What shall we Christians do now with this depraved and damned people of the Jews? ... I will give my faithful advice First, that one should set fire to their synagogues . . . . Then that one should also break down and destroy their houses .... That one should drive them out the country. Martin Luther, The Jews and Their Lies
. . . but then eject them forever from this country. For, as we have heard, God s anger with them is so intense that gentle mercy will only tend to make them worse and worse, while sharp mercy will reform them but little. Therefore, in any case, away with them! Martin Luther, The Jews and Their Lies
What shall we do with ... the Jews? ... I advise that all their prayer books and Talmudic writings ... are to be taken from them ... I advise that safe-conduct on the highways be abolished completely for the Jews ... I advise that their rabbis be forbidden to teach on pain of loss of life and limb . . . set fire to their synagogues or schools and bury and cover with dirt whatever will not bum, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them . their homes also should be razed and destroyed. Martin Luther
We decree and order that from now on, and for all time, Christians shall not eat or drink with Jews, nor admit them to feasts, nor cohabit with them, nor bathe with them. Christians shall not allow Jews to hold civil honor over Christians, or to exercise public offices of the state. Pope Eugenius IV, Decree (1442)
Since the Jews are according to the law sentenced to perpetual slavery for their sins, the rulers of the countries in which they are found may seize their property, provided that they do not deprive them of the necessities of life. St. Thomas Aquinas, Letter to the Duchess of Brabant
The Jews, like Cain, are doomed to wander the earth as fugitives and vagabonds, and their faces are covered with shame. Pope Innocent III, Letter to Count de Nevers (early 13th century)
We order that each and every Jew of both sexes in our temporal dominion, and in all the cities, lands, places and baronies subject to them shall depart completely out of the confines thereof within the space of three months after these letters shall have been made public. Pope Pius IV, Decree (1569)
On Race and Color
Furthermore, there is that other great, intolerable evil of the New England Puritans the Puritans took land away from the native Americans. You know, the Indians. (Liberals have adopted the phrase native Americans in recent years. They never, ever say American natives, since this is only one step away from American savages, which is precisely what most of those demon-worshipping, Negro slave-holding, frequently land-polluting people were . . Gary North, Political Polytheism The Myth of Pluralism, pp. 257-258
The background of the Negro culture is voodoo and magic and the purposes the magic are control and power over God, man, nature and society. Voodoo and magic was the religion and life of America s Negro. R.J. Rushdooncy, The Institutes of Biblical Law
If we had to take a million immigrants in, say Zulus, next year, or Englishmen, and put them up in Virginia, what group would be easier to assimilate and would cause less problems for the people of Virginia? Pat Buchanan, This Week With David Brinkley, 1/8/91
[Multiculturalism is] an across-the-board assault on our Anglo-American heritage. Pat Buchanan, September 1993 speech to the Christian Coalition
George Bush should have told the [NAACP convention] that black America has grown up that the NAACP should close up shop, that its members should go home and reflect on JFK s admonition Ask not what your country can do for you, but rather ask what you can do for your country. Pat Buchanan, syndicated Column, 7/26/88
There is a legitimate grievance in my view of white working-class people that every time, on every issue, that the black militants loudmouth it, we come tip with more money . . . If we can give 50 Phantoms [jet fighters] to the Jews, and a multibillion dollar welfare program for the blacks ... why not help the Catholics save their collapsing school system. Pat Buchanan, quoted in the Boston Globe, 1/4/92
All men are NOT created equal before God the facts of heaven and hell, election and reprobation make clear that they are not equal. Moreover, an employer has a property right to prefer whom he will in terms of color creed, race or national origin. R.J. Rushdooney, The Institutes of Biblical Law
How long is this endless groveling before every cry of racism going to continue before the whole country collectively throws up? Pat Buchanan, syndicated column, 7/28/93
The strongly matriarchal character of Negro life is due to the moral failure of Negro men, their failure to be responsible, to support the family, or to provide authority. The same is true of American Indian tribes which are also matriarchal today. R.J. Rushdooney, The Institutes of Biblical Law, p. 203
I think one man one vote, just unrestricted democracy would not be wise. There needs to be some kind of protection for the minority which the white people represent now, a minority, and they need and have a right to demand a protection of their rights... Pat Robertson on the 700 Club, 3/18/92, on South Africa
The (Biblical) Law here is humane and also unsentimental. It recognizes that some people are by nature slaves and will always be so. It both requires that they be dealt with in a godly manner and also that the slave recognizes his position and accepts it with grace. R.J. Rushdooney, The Institutes of Biblical Law, p. 251
Granted that some Negroes were mistreated as slaves, the fact still remains that nowhere in all history or in the world today has the Negro been better off. The life expectancy of the Negro increased when he was transported to America. He was not taken from freedom into slavery, but from a vicious slavery to degenerate chiefs to a generally benevolent slavery in the United States. R.J. Rushdooney, Politics of Guilt and Pity (Fairfax, VA Thoburn Press, 1978)
See How They Love
The ACLU s got to take a lot of blame for this ... But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way- all of them who have tried to secularize America- I point the finger in their face and say you helped this happen.
Jerry Falwell on the 700 Club, speaking about the terrorist attack of the World Trade Center on Sept 11, 2001
Well, I totally concur, and the problem is we have adopted that agenda at the highest levels of our government. And so we re responsible as a free society for what the top people do. And, the top people, of course, is the court system. Pat Robertson, on the 700 Club, replying to Falwell s above comments
The focus of many in America has been on the pursuit of health, wealth, material pleasures and sexuality. Sadly, those in the churches have been as self-indulgent as those in the world. We have allowed rampant pornography on the Internet, and rampant secularism and the occult, etc. to be broadcast on television. We have permitted somewhere in the neighborhood of 35-40 million unborn babies to be slaughtered by our society. We have a court that has essentially stuck its finger in God s eye and said, We are going to legislate You out of the schools and take Your commandments from the courthouses in various states. We are not going to let little children read the commandments of God. We are not going to allow the Bible or prayer in our schools. We have insulted God at the highest level of our government. Then, we say, Why does this happen? It is happening because God Almighty is lifting His protection from us. Once that protection is gone, we are vulnerable because we are a free society. Pat Robertson on his website, article entitled Robertson s Statement Regarding Terrorist Attack on America
In Europe, the big word is tolerance.... Homosexuals are riding high in the media.... And in Scotland, you can t believe how strong the homosexuals are. It s just unbelievable. Pat Robertson, quoted in the June 2, 1999 Washington Post
The significance of Jesus Christ as the faithful and true witness is that He not only witnesses against those who are at war against God, but He also executes them. R.J. Rushdooney, The Institutes of Biblical Law, p. 574
When 1, or people like me, are running the country, you d better flee, because we will find you, we will try you, and we will execute you. I mean every word of it. I will make it part of my mission to see to it that they are tried and executed ... If we re going to have true reformation in America, it is because men once again, if I may use a worn out expression, have a righteous testosterone flowing through their veins. They are not afraid of contempt for their contemporaries. They are not here to get along. They are here to take over . . . Randall Terry, addressing a banquet sponsored by the US Tax Payers Alliance, Aug. 8, 1995
I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good ... Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a biblical duty, we are called by God to conquer this country. We don t want equal time. We don t want pluralism. Randall Terry, quoted in the Fort Wayne News Sentinel, 8/16/93
Homosexuals want their depraved values to become our children s values. Homosexuals expect society to embrace their immoral way of life. Worse yet, they are looking for new recruits! Beverly LaHaye, Concerned Women For America direct mail piece, May 1992
As the church watches from the sidelines, the ungodly elect atheists and homosexuals to school boards and legislatures to enact policies and laws that destroy our Christian children and discriminate against Christian families. Robert Simonds, Founder of Citizens for Excellence In Education, CEE President s Report, 3/91
I believe that during the next couple of years there will be a fierce struggle between the militant leftists, secular humanists, and atheists who have dominated the power centers of American culture for the past 50 years and the Evangelical Christians, pro-family Roman Catholics, and their conservative allies. The radical left will lose its hold, and by the end of this decade control of the major institutions of society will be firmly in the hands of those who share a pro-family, religious, traditional value perspective. Pat Robertson s Perspective, July-August, 1991
The character [TinkyWinky, from PBS s Teletubbies children s program], whose voice is obviously that of a boy, has been found carrying a red purse in many episodes and has become a favorite character among gay groups worldwide. Now, further evidence that the creators of the series intend for Tinky Winky to be a gay role model have surfaced. He is purple- the gaypride color and his antenna is shaped like a triangle-the gaypride symbol. Feb. 1999 National Liberty Journal, edited by Jerry Falwell, who defended the article
How can there be peace when drunkards, drug dealers, communists, atheists, New Age, worshipers of Satan, secular humanists, oppressive dictators, greedy moneychangers, revolutionary assassins, adulterers, and homosexuals are on top? Pat Robertson, The New World Order, p. 227
It is interesting, that termites don t build things, and the great builders of our nation almost to a man have been Christians, because Christians have the desire to build something. He is motivated by love of man and God, so he builds. The people who have come into [our] institutions [today] are primarily termites. They are into destroying institutions that have been built by Christians, whether it is universities, governments, our own traditions, that we have.... The termites are in charge now, and that is not the way it ought to be, and the time has arrived for a godly fumigation. Pat Robertson, New York Magazine, August 18, 1986
You say you re supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don t have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don t have to be nice to them. Pat Robertson, 700 Club, January 14, 1991
I have known few homosexuals who did not practice their tendencies. Such people are sinning against God and will lead to the ultimate destruction of the family and our nation. I am unalterably opposed to such things, and will do everything I can to restrict the freedom of these people to spread their contagious infection to the youth of this nation. Pat Robertson
I know there are some Christians who believe that war and their participation in it are morally wrong. While I respect their views and must allow them to follow their consciences, I do not believe the Bible teaches pacifism. Pat Robertson
If you wanted to get America destroyed, if you were a malevolent, evil force and you said, How can I turn God against America? What can I do to get God mad at the people of America to cause this great land to vomit out the people? Well, I d pick five things. I d begin to have incest, I d begin to commit adultery wherever possible, all over the country, and sexuality. I d begin to have them offering up and killing their babies. I d get them having homosexual relations, and then I d have them having sex with animals. Pat Robertson, quoted in the San Francisco Examiner, September 7, 1986
What you are about to hear, is God s word to the men of this nation. We are going to war as of tonight. We have divine power that is our weapon. We will not compromise. Wherever truth is at risk, in the schools or legislature, we are going to contend for it. We will win. Bill McCartney
Take the nation for Jesus Christ. Bill McCartney
The battle for the mind, some fundamentalists believe, is between fundamentalism and the institutions of the Left. This conception of the battle is fundamentally incorrect. The battle for the mind is between the Christian reconstruction movement, which alone among Protestant groups takes seriously the law of God, and everyone else. Gary North, Backward Christian Soldiers? An Action Manual For Christian Reconstruction, pp. 6566 (Tyler, TX Institute for Christian Economics, 1984)
We are to make Bible-obeying disciples of anybody that gets in our way. Jay Grimstead, February 1987
It occurs to me Was Moses arrogant and unbiblical when he instructed the Israelites to kill every Canaanite in the land (Deut. 7 2 20 16-17)? Was he an elitist or (horror of horrors) a racist? No he was a Godfearing man who sought to obey God, who commanded them to kill them all. It sounds like a superior attitude to me. Of course, Christians have been given no comparable military command in New Testament times, but I am trying to deal with the attitude of superiority a superiority based on our possession of the law of God. That attitude is something Christians must have when dealing with all pagans. God has given us the tools of dominion. Gary North, The Sinai Strategy Economics and the Ten Commandments, p. 214
Christians are supposed to love each other. Communists are supposed to share bonds with all proletarians and other communists. Every ideological group proclaims universality, and all of them bicker internally, never displaying unity except in the face of a common enemy. Humanism today is the common enemy of Christians. Gary North, Backward Christian Soldiers? An Action Manual For Christian Reconstruction, p. 136
I want to be invisible. I do guerrilla warfare. I paint my face and travel at night. You don t know it s over until you re in a body bag. Randall Terry, quoted in the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, 1/9/91 (on his election strategy)
It s not only a cultural civil war, it s a fight over the very existence of society as we ve known it. Donald Wildmon, founder of the American Family Association, quoted in the Memphis, Tennessee Commercial-Appeal, 8/5/90
What we are up against is not dirty words and dirty pictures. It is a philosophy of life which seeks to remove the influence of Christians and Christianity from our society. Donald Wildmon, quoted by The New York Times, 9/2/90
When lawlessness is abroad in the land, the same thing will happen here that happened in Nazi Germany. Many of those people involved with Adolph Hitler were Satanists, many of them were homosexual the two things seem to go together. Pat Robertson
There will never be world peace until God s house and God s people are given their rightful place of leadership at the top of the world. Pat Robertson
The world will not know how to live or which direction to go without the Church s Biblical influence on its theories, laws, actions, and institutions. Randall Terry
The strategy against the American radical left should be the same as General Douglas MacArthur employed against the Japanese in the Pacific ... bypass their strongholds, then surround them, isolate them bombard them, then blast the individuals out of their power bunkers with hand-to-hand combat. The battle for Iwo Jima was not pleasant, but our troops won it. The battle to regain the soul of America won t be pleasant either, but we will win it. Pat Robertson, Pat Robertson s Perspective, AprilMay 1992
It s like guerrilla warfare . . . It s better to move quietly, with stealth, under cover of night. You ve got two choices You can wear cammies and shimmy along on your belly or you can put an a red coat and stand up for everyone to see. It comes down to whether you want to be the British army in the Revolutionary War or the Viet Cong. History tells us which tactic is more effective. Ralph Reed, quoted by the Los Angeles Times, reprinted in The Religious Right The Assault of Tolerance & Pluralism in America, produced by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL)
In the 1990s and beyond, the battle is not going to be fought much longer between Christianity and atheistic humanism, but between Christianity and satanic-inspired Eastern religions. Pat Robertson
We don t have to worry about convincing a majority of Americans to agree with us ... Most of them are staying home and watching Falcon Crest. Guy Rodgers, then-national field coordinator for the Christian Coalition, quoted in The Religious Right The Assault of Tolerance & Pluralism in America
Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It s no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history. Pat Robertson in a 1993 interview with Molly Ivins

Thank you so very much for calling me close minded. Jesus said, My way is narrow. Bob Enyart, www.Enyart.com
People have immortal spirits with incredible power over elemental things. The way to deal with inanimate matter is to talk to it. Pat Robertson, quoted in the San Francisco Examiner, Sept. 7, 1986
Sin is the moral cause of earthquakes, whatever their natural cause may be. John Wesley, The Cause and Cure of Earthquakes
Idiots, the lame, the blind, the dunlb, are men in whom the devils have established themselves and all the physicians who heal these infirmities, as though they proceeded from natural causes, are ignorant blockheads... Martin Luther
There is on earth among all dangers no more dangerous thing than a richly endowed and adroit reason. Reason must be deluded, blinded, and destroyed. Martin Luther
This fool [Copernicus] wishes to reverse the entire science of astronomy but sacred scripture tells us that Joshua commanded the sun to stand still, and not the earth. Martin Luther
So tenaciously should we cling to the world revealed by the Gospel, that were I to see all the Angels of Heaven coming down to me to tell me something different, not only would I not be tempted to doubt a single syllable, but I would shut my eyes and stop my ears, for they would not deserve to be either seen or heard. Martin Luther
It would be an evil example for the world if such honours were rendered to a man who had been brought before * the Roman Inquisition for an opinion so false and erroneous who had communicated it to many others, and who had given so great a scandal to Christendom. Pope Urban Vill (on a monument to Galileo), quoted by Andrew Dickson White in The History of the Warfare Between Science and Theology
The first proposition, that the sun is the center and does not revolve around the earth, is foolish, absurd, false in theology, and heretical, because it is expressly contrary to Holy Scripture. The second proposition, that the earth is not the center but revolves about the sun, is absurd, false in philosophy, and, from a theological point of view, at least opposed to the true faith. Roman Inquisition, judgment on the writings of Galileo, 1615
Who will venture to place the authority of Copernicus above that of the Holy Spirit? John Calvin, quoted by Andrew Dickson White in The History of the Warfare Between Science and Theology
In Their Own Words
This pamphlet contains a myriad of insane, grotesque, frightening, and occasionally unintentionally funny quotations from the authoritarian religious nuts who want to run your life. ... for example ...
